What offseason? A busy month for the CFP Host Committee

It may be the offseason for college football, but not for our Houston 2024 Host Committee! Our team has made big strides over the last 60 days toward reaching our goals as a committee, including the launch of two major programs focused on the Houston business and education communities.

GROWING THE HOUSTON ECONOMY

In late April we launched our Buy Houston: By Houston supplier diversity program to increase access for historically underrepresented groups to the bids and contracts surrounding the CFP National Championship Game and its ancillary events. HOUSTON LOVES TEACHERS!

This month we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week, and with it, we also kicked off our Houston Loves Teachers campaign in partnership with the CFP Foundation and Good Reason Houston. We not only celebrated the program's launch with a teacher appreciation party at Saint Arnold Brewery with hundreds of teachers in attendance but also helped the CFP Foundation give away more than $100,000 in Donors Choose gift cards on behalf of Eckrich to help them outfit their classrooms! Enjoy this video featuring several Houston sports icons recalling their most influential teachers.

IT’S SUMMER! TIME TO HEAT UP OUR OUTREACH

The temperature isn't the only thing heating up in Houston right now – our Community Engagement team is ramping up their outreach efforts as we head into festival and event season in H-Town. Keep an eye out for our team at community events all over the Greater Houston Area and stop by and say hi! You may walk away with some cool CFP merch or get the chance to win free tickets to the game or one of the exciting events around town that weekend! If you are hosting an event or know of an event where you think we ought to make an appearance, let us know by emailing 2024cfp@houstonsports.org.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Part of our mission as a Host Committee is to make the National Championship Game feel like Houston’s game, and that's because our team is filled with people who love this city. We want you to get to know the team behind the game, continuing this month with our Vice President of Operations, David Robertson. David has been a part of the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority team in various contract roles for nearly 12 years, helping the full-time Sports Authority staff execute a wide range of events from the AAU Junior Olympics to the IWF World Weightlifting Championships to now the College Football Playoff. David also spent several years working in college athletics, including at the University of Houston and Cornell.

Away from the office, Dave is an avid traveler and hiker. He’s hiked the Swiss Alps, Colorado Rockies and French Pyrenees, to name just a few. At work, he is the Host Committee’s primary contact for virtually every city and county department and he leads our operations team in coordinating every detail of the event, from signage plans to 5K race routes to transportation and logistical planning.
