A September to Remember for Houston’s Host Committee

A MESSAGE FROM CHRIS MASSEY, HOUSTON 2024 HOST COMMITTEE PRESIDENT

September has been a tremendous month for our Houston Host Committee and the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority. I could not be more excited to see our efforts coming together throughout the summer to create a meaningful impact and legacy in our community. Over the last 30 days, we have unveiled a new library media space for a local elementary school and announced plans to renovate another, with several more to come. We also recognized dozens of amazing Houston educators with special game ball presentations and Donors Choose gift cards totaling tens of thousands of dollars. It is a small token for their enormous contributions and commitment to their students. And let's talk about the impact! The team continues to find new activations and collaborations across the city to help spread the word about CFP National Championship Week and, more importantly, to further this event's positive impact on our community.

A NEW CHAPTER FOR HOBBY ELEMENTARY’S LIBRARY AND MEDIA CENTER

The month of September may have brought much needed rain, but the spirit at the grand unveiling of Hobby Elementary’s newly redesigned library and media space shined through! Months of dedication and hard work have resulted in a vibrant, modern, and inviting learning hub for current and future Hobby Mustangs thanks to the College Football Playoff Foundation(CFPF), Eckrich, the Big 12 Conference, and the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority The space now boasts upgraded technology, cozy reading furniture, interactive learning stations, and a diverse collection of books and multimedia resources with a focus on inspiring creativity, fostering a love for reading, and enhancing digital literacy among young learners. The surprises and joy didn’t stop there! The CFPF presented Hobby Elementary School Principal, LaKeisha Mays-Ogbor, with a DonorsChoose gift card in the amount of $5,000, followed by a surprise $10,000 donation from the Big 12—the new home of our University of Houston Cougars. With a final surprise, Eckrich also presented two $1,000 awards to two outstanding Hobby Elementary educators, Charlotte West, and Chaitra Hightower, who have spent 38 years and 23 years, respectively, in the classroom.
